Get ready for your Clearing hotline call with our practical advice and top tips. Find out what to have ready, what to expect, and how to make the process as smooth as possible.

We know that calling a university during Clearing can feel stressful, especially on results day. That's why our friendly Admissions advisors and student ambassadors are here to guide you through the process, answer your questions, and help you find a course you'll love.

Our Clearing Hotline is open from early July through to October, with extended opening hours on results day. From 8am on Thursday 13 August 2026, our team will be ready to talk through your options, answer questions about our courses, and support you in taking your next step towards university.

 

Whatever the outcome of your results, we'll do everything we can to help you find the right option for you.

What to Expect

When you get through to our advisors, here’s what to expect:

  • We’ll ask you about your results or qualifications
  • We’ll collect some personal details
  • We’ll check which course(s) you are interested in and still have spaces
  • We’ll give you a decision as soon as we can, and verbally offer you a place if you meet entry requirements
  • Once you have an offer, we’ll ask if you’d like to speak to our accommodation team or about visiting campus

Top Tips for a Smooth Call

Find somewhere with minimal interruptions.

Make sure your phone is charged and you have signal.

Have a friend or family member nearby if you want support.

Pause the call if you need time to think through your options. You can still call back at a later time and we would be happy to help.

Your Call Checklist

Questions you might want to ask when you call us to help you make your decisions:

  1. These are my achieved grades – do you have any recommendations?
  2. I’ve got different grades or have seen other courses I’m interested in – can I switch courses?
  3. Do you have accommodation available?
  4. How do I apply for accommodation application during Clearing?
  5. Can I visit the campus?

Preparing for Your Call

Being prepared before you call makes everything smoother. You can have the below ready for when you call:

  • Your UCAS ID and/or Clearing number
  • GCSEs, A levels, BTECs, or other qualifications – we’ll ask for title and grades
  • A personal statement – either from your UCAS application or written ready
  • A way to take notes in case there is any information we need to give to you.

Once You've Contacted Us

If we have places and give you a verbal offer:

  1. Add Plymouth Marjon University as your Clearing choice on UCAS Hub.
  2. Ensure you’ve provided any documents or certificates.
  3. We’ll update your UCAS choice.
  4. Apply or speak to our accommodation team to arrange accommodation.
  5. Apply for or arrange your student finance as soon as possible.
  6. We will also write to you with this information.
