Induction week events

 

To give you a flavour of what to expect below is what happened in 2025:

Sunday 21st 

• 20:00 onwards - Barjon - White T-shirt night - Event to begin straight after welcome BBQ, get as many signatures whilst DJ set plays!*

Monday 22nd 

• 10:00-15:00 - Games in The Octagon/on the Quad - pool, crazy golf, table tennis, board games, big screen switch and various other things to do. Come in and make yourself at home! 
• 11:00-15:00 - ‘Marjolympics’ - Sports day gaming activities, teams of 4-6, taking place all over campus*
• 15:30-16:30 - Unplug and Unwind, Immersive Room (Health and Wellbeing Hub), using the immersive space to take a break from the busy-ness of Freshers, two half hour slots where students can chill out, practice mindfulness and slow down. 
• 19:30-21:00 - The Octagon - Chocolate Fondue and Bingo
• 20:00 onwards - Popworld - Cowboys and Cowgirls themed event**

Tuesday 23rd

• 10:00-15:00 - Games in The Octagon/on the Quad
• 12:00 - Barjon - Bingo
• 16:00 - Campus Cluedo - Tour of campus, working in groups to figure out the murderer on campus! A cash prize is up for grabs for the first team to solve the mystery.
• 19:00 - Guts and Gore night themed event*
• 19:30-21:00 - Retro youth club - pool, table tennis, PS5, switch, VR, board games, crazy golf & pancakes  

Wednesday 24th

• 10:00-14:00 - Freshers Fayre - Meet sports team, societies, collect freebies from local businesses!
• 10:00-15:00 - Archive open-doors - Come and find the archive at the top floor of the library, explore, browse or just have a moment of peace.
• 10:00-15:00 - Games in The Octagon/on the Quad
• 15:30-16:30 - Unplug and Unwind, Immersive Room (Health and Wellbeing Hub), using the immersive space to take a break from the busy-ness of Freshers, two half hour slots where students can chill out, practice mindfulness and slow down. 
• 19:00 onwards - OutOut - Freshers Festival themed event**
• 19:30-21:00 - The Octagon - Film and pizza

Thursday 25th

• All day - Find a Fresher challenge - Freshers are given a set of tasks to complete around campus, clues and prizes if completed
• 10:00-15:00 - Archive open-doors, top floor of the Library
• 10:00-15:00 - Games in The Octagon/on the Quad
• 13:00-16:00 - Marjon Walking Group: Not Fast or Furious - A walk around the Barbican and the Hoe (TBC) with the Student Life team, getting off campus to explore the local area
• 19:00 onwards - Barjon - ‘Barjolympics’ - Pub games, darts, pool, drinking/nondrinking games low competitive activities.*
• 20:00 - TenPin Bowling @ Barbican, sign up in The Octagon before Wednesday 24th, £10 beforehand. Please meet 19:30 at The Octagon if you need a lift

Friday 26th

• 10:00-15:00 - Games in The Octagon/on the Quad
• 12:00-19:00 - Marjon Sport and Health Centre - Try it Friday - Opportunity to try all sports at Marjon across the afternoon/evening
• 14:00-16:00 - crazy golf/sea swim, meet up at Smeaton's Tower - go for a sea swim, or play crazy golf (£7)
• 16:00- 18:00 - food on The Hoe, meet at Smeaton's Tower, walk to Barbican for fish and chips – bring money for your food
• 16:00-19:00 - Feel Good Film Friday - Film screening in the lecture theatre, film to be decided by student vote throughout welcome week!
• 20:00 onwards - Silent Disco*

Saturday 27th

• All day - Pub Golf in Plymouth - Large group visiting different pubs within Plymouth City Centre, students will meet at Barjon and get the bus to town together*
• 13:00 (TBC) - 'Speed Friending' - Freshers to meet in fast paced scenarios to break the ice*

Sunday 28th

• 20:00 onwards - Revolution Plymouth - Back2Skool -  themed dress up, leaving from Barjon**

Monday 29th

• 19:00 onwards - Barjon - Quiz - Dress up as Granny and Grandads for an MSU led quiz*

Tuesday 30th

• 19:00 onwards - Barjon - Pizza and PJs movie night*
