Your interview will provide you with an opportunity gain further information about the BSc Nursing, FdSc Assistant Practitioner or FdSc Nursing Associate courses, have a tour of the facilities and to meet academics. It’s also an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have concerning your studies at the University of St Mark & St John.
The purpose of the interview is to assess your suitability for your chosen course and will involve a discussion about your reasons for wanting to join the profession, your experience and your career aspirations.
The Interview
Applicants will participate in a carousel of 4 mini-interviews which are conducted by representatives from the programme team, Practice Learning Partners and the People Who Use Services Group.
The School of Health and Wellbeing use a values-based approach to help attract and select students whose personal values and behaviours align with the values of the profession and the organisation. We do not just recruit individuals for their skills and competence, but also look at how their own values align with those of the National Health Service and those of the University.
This process is in line with the Francis Report, which emphasised the need for a culture shift in the NHS and the importance of a common set of values. Evidence suggests that values-based recruitment is good recruitment practice and students with the right values are more likely to:
Each applicant will be asked the same structured question in each interview and will be scored using a clear rubric. Each interview will last between 5-7 minutes.
Scores across all stations will be tallied and used along with the personal statement and application information, to make an informed offer decision. As a candidate, you must display both the ability to develop the competence required of the role, as well as the values required by the NHS.

Qualifications, DBS, Occupational health check and vaccinations
You will need to provide copies of any qualifications already achieved. This may be requested if you receive an offer
If you are successful at interview and accept an offer with us, we will be in touch regarding your DBS check and occupational health assessment. We will send you information about applying for a DBS check through Marjon - you cannot apply for this independently.
You will also be required to obtain the relevant vaccinations due to the course involvement placements in clinical settings. We will contact you regarding this if you are made an offer
